Mar-Lu-Ridge Homecoming Press Release – July 23, 2009
On the last weekend of September, friends of Mar-Lu-Ridge in Jefferson, MD, are invited to come back home to the Ridge for a special culminating event of the camp’s 50th anniversary of outdoor ministry.
On Saturday, September 26th, all former campers, staff, and retreaters are welcomed to participate in Homecoming decade-based reunions during the afternoon, a hike to the powerlines at sunset, and an old-fashioned campfire program after dark. Fun family activities will also be provided. Accommodations in cabins or arks and meals are available with your reservation.
Sunday, September 27th will include breakfast for those who have spent the night, a worship service, a picnic lunch, and the annual Walk-a-Ridge-a-thon fundraiser. All DE/MD and Metro DC ELCA churches have been invited to bring their congregations up to the Ridge for the 10 a.m. worship, which is planned to be held at the camp’s amphitheater. Attending churches are asked to bring their church banner to participate in the banner procession from the Chapel to the service to begin the worship. All are welcomed to participate in this service that will remember fifty wonderful years on the Ridge and look forward to the blessings of many more to come.
After the service, all are welcomed to have a picnic lunch in the pavilion area and then stay for the biggest fundraiser of the year, the Walk-a-Ridge-a-thon. Participants can walk the camp road or hike the Area 3 Trail; those who would rather be Walk Supporters can enjoy the serenity of the Chapel and stay around camp to enjoy the fellowship of other friends of MLR. All are challenged to help raise $50,000 to commemorate the life-changing experiences that thousands have gained from the ministry of Mar-Lu-Ridge.
A registration form for the reunion and Walk-a-Ridge-a-thon forms can be found at www.mar-lu-ridge.org. Please submit your reunion registration and deposit as soon as possible so that proper planning can occur. If your congregation would like to arrange to come as a large group for the worship service, please contact vicki@christinnerharbor.org.
